Strain rate dependent compressive mechanical properties and dynamic failure of pre-strained epoxy syntactic foam

چکیده
Syntactic foam is increasingly used in engineering applications. This paper studies the dynamic mechanical properties and failure of syntactic foam, with emphasis on influence pre-strain embedded collapsed microballons. The epoxy (ESF) different levels successfully produced using a confinement sleeve technique. initial pre-strained ESF are tested compared from quasi-static to high strain rates about 1000 /s. deformation processes monitored speed photograph techniques. stress–strain relationships show rate dependence. presents good deformability. results shear localization, regardless pre-strain. shows macro elastic brittle behaviour, fracture surface consists partially deformed localized regions. pre-strain, however, microballons surrounded by flow like behaviour severely matrix, which would be associated thermomechanical coupling process. study indicates deformability energy absorption capacity.

15 صفحه اولTuning the compressive mechanical properties of carbon nanotube foam
A post-growth chemical vapor deposition (CVD) treatment was used to tune the compressive mechanical properties of carbon nanotube (CNT) arrays. Millimeter tall CNT arrays with low compressive resilience were changed to a foam-like material with high compressive strength and almost complete recovery upon unloading. The foam was tuned to provide a range of compressive properties for various appli...
متن کاملStrain-rate-dependent mechanical properties of the equine hoof wall.
The mechanical properties of fully hydrated equine hoof wall were examined at various loading rates in compact tension (CT) fracture, tensile and three-point bending dynamic tests to determine possible effects of hoof wall viscoelasticity on fracture toughness and tensile parameters. Four cross-head rates were used in CT tests: 1.7 x 10(-5), 1.7 x 10 (-3), 1.7 x 10(-2) and 2.5ms-1; four strain ...
متن کاملCarbon-Nanofiber-Reinforced Syntactic Foams: Compressive Properties and Strain Rate Sensitivity
The current study is focused on exploring the possibility of reinforcing syntactic foams with carbon nanofibers (CNFs). Syntactic foams are hollow, particle-filled composites that are widely used in marine structures and are now finding applications in other modes of transportation due to their high stiffness-to-weight ratio. The compressive properties of syntactic foams reinforced with CNFs ar...
